This course will continue to develop your skills in Bahasa and help build confidence, especially in listening and speaking skills. Culture and tradition related to topics will also be discussed.

Course outline

  • Topic 1Introduction - Kenalkan yourself, family, pernah ke Indonesia, dimana belajar bahasa Indonesia.  Test uji: Bagaimana bahasa Indonesia anda?  Simple sentence and verbal sentence.  Speak and write in proper order: Subject –Verb – Object (+ tenses/time, place phrase).  Revision:  PP.
  • Topic 2How to write and speak in proper Indonesian sentence.   Note the construction.  How to extent a simple sentence to complicated sentence (adding: modifying wordspossessives, and adjectives – brief revision of the rules of those words).  Dialogue with prefix ber- PR (HW)

  • Wk-6:  Buying things from shops.  Focus on imperative forms.  Dialogue: Berbelanja di toko pakaian.  Prefix: ter- Baju itu tidak terbeli oleh saya.   
  • Wk-7:  conversation on the phone.  Focus on speaking and taking notes.  Sampaikan, ada, adalah.  Dialogue:  Ini siapa?  Bagaimana di situ.   Di sini, disana, di situ.  Prefix me-kan
  • Wk-8:  Visiting someone.  Focus on formal and informal language.  Expressions, code of conduct

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, you should be able to:

  • communicate confidently in Bahasa and know how to use an Indonesian dictionary
  • use the language effectively in solving simple problems, knows where to go
  • read and understand uncomplicated statements, advertisements, and short letters
  • write short simple statements/reports and replies to letters
  • listen to, understand and respond to the native speakers’ simple expressions, or questions
  • speak/express your thoughts, ask questions as well as respond
  • understand customs and traditions, do's and don'ts applied in everyday life and feel confident when travelling in Indonesia
