A fun class in which learners will have chances to communicate with each other while learning to speak, listening, reading and writing skills. This course will include not only Japanese language, but also a brief introduction of Japanese modern history, culture, and society.

  • Nihon no seikatsu wa do desu ka. / Ryoko wa do deshita ka.

  • What does that taste like? / That looks delicious. / I can’t really eat pork.
  • It’s nice weather today, isn’t it? - Socializing 1 - Making small tal世間話(せけんばなし)k 世話話をする
  • Kyo wa ii tenki desu ne. / Saikin shigoto wa do desu ka. / Ja, mata.
  • It’s nice weather today, isn’t it? / How has your job been lately? / See you later.
  • Would you like to have a cup of tea? - Socializing 2 – Invitation 誘(さそ)
  • Ocha o nomimasen ka. / Onsen ni itta koto ga arimasen ka.
  • Would you like to have a cup of tea? / Have you ever been to an onsen (hot spring)?

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, students should:

  • have a fundamental understanding of everyday Japanese.
  • have a fair understanding of grammatical patterns, Japanese writing system, and a range of everyday vocabulary

Who should enrol

This course is suitable for those who have completed Japanese 1 and 2 or similar - approximately 40 hours of study.
