This course is designed to provide students, with no prior knowledge of Korean, a broad and practical understanding of the Korean language, essential for basic communication and to establish a strong base for further study of Korean.

Course outline

·       Week 1: Introduction to Hangul & Consonants

·       Week 2: Vowels & Introduction to numbers

·       Week 3: Combined vowels and final consonants

·       Week 4: Composing basic sentences

·       Week 5: Greetings and introducing: Nice to meet you!

·       Week 6: Talking about daily activities

·       Week 7: Talking about time & plans: What time is your birthday party?

·       Week 8: Explaining where things are: Where is the book?

·       Week 9: Asking and explaining the locations of facilities : Where is the dormitory?

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course, you should:

  • Have a basic knowledge of the Korean language and culture
  • Be able to produce and comprehend various types of simple sentences and expressions in daily activities
  • Be able to read and write Hangul
  • Be able to communicate in Korean for day-to-day situations and on some limited topics
  • Have a basic understanding of the Korean culture and people.
  • Expected to learn about 120 Vocabs + numbers up to 100

Korean 1 is for anyone who is interested in Korea or the Korean language. *No prior knowledge required.
