Congratulations to our 50th Anniversary Travel Competition winners!

We are excited to announce the winners of our 50th Anniversary Travel Competition.

  • First prize: a $3,000 Granted Worldwide travel voucher was awarded to: Steven Warwick
  • Second prize: a $2,000 Granted Worldwide travel voucher was awarded to: Jennifer Bulling
  • Third prize: a $1,000 Granted Worldwide travel voucher was awarded to: Julia Gillett.

On Monday 2 December, ANU Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) hosted a mini ceremony (complete with novelty-sized cheques) for the winners of our 50th Anniversary Travel Competition, and were delighted to speak to Steven and Jennifer in person, and Julia via email.

When asked what their first reaction was to winning, Steven and Jennifer responded thinking it was a scam - awkward! Neither had realised that by enrolling in a CCE course and maintaining their subscription to our e-newsletter, they automatically qualified for our competition, which has been open since January this year. So it was a wonderful surprise they had won. And Steven had always wanted to take home a giant cheque.

Julia was completely shocked - she never wins anything! The prize seems to have been perfectly timed, as she needs to travel across Australia for a round of work interviews.

Between all our winners, they have completed an incredible 13 CCE courses from across all our programs including: professional development, languages, history and visual arts.

Steven quite enjoyed studying Mandarin as it covered both the language and culture; while Jennifer really enjoyed our arts program. Julia can't wait to test her recently acquired CCE French skills with a months-long trip to France planned.

When quizzed about their thoughts on lifelong learning, they shared the same sentiment - that there's always something new to learn and learning keeps the mind fresh and the world exciting.

But where have our winners decided to travel with their vouchers? Steven is taking his partner to the Swiss Alps, to a quaint village over Christmas while Jennifer is 'shouting' her recently-graduated daughter a shopping trip to Morocco. Can we please come?!

And we can't wait to hear how Julia's interviews go. Good luck Julia!
