Course outline

Join us in this introductory and intermediate class to the extraordinary material of glass. In this hands-on course, learn the fundamental skills in glass cutting, cold working and kiln forming in with set projects. Each project is designed to develop awareness and skills while also to allowing you the freedom to explore the material, process and ideas. 

Become competent in how to design, prepare and construct projects and walk away with six completed projects of your own design.

Learning outcomes

This class will cover; cutting glass, glass selection, preparing glass and kiln for firing, designing for glass, various fusing applications, slumping glass, making simple slump moulds, working on a torch to create inclusions, firing schedules,  dilutions and glass behaviour in kiln, working with frit, kiln carving and basic finishing techniques.

Course materials

Dust mask, Safety glasses, Suitable working clothing (including closed shoes, long pants and an apron for overshirt), pencil and paper, small ruler or measuring tape, Scalpel or small Stanley knife and scissors.
